POLITICSTinubu shakes hands with Osinbajo as he wins APC presidential primary

Image
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, shared a warm handshake with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, as he coasted to victory in the party’s presidential primary. Tinubu has taken a commanding lead in the voting, having amassed over half of the total votes. The former Lagos State Governor is way ahead of Osinbajo and the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. About 2,322 delegates from across Nigeria had stormed the Eagles Square to elect the flag bearer of the party. After President Muhammadu Buhari returned to the arena, Tinubu went to the podium to shake hands with the Commander-in-Chief and his wife, Aisha. Tinubu also stopped briefly to shake hands with Osinbajo and exchanged a few words

APC delegates demand Adamu’s resignation

Image
A section of delegates has demanded the immediate resignation of All Progressives Congress (APC) National chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. Adamu announced Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the “consensus candidate” ahead of APC presidential primary on Tuesday. But outraged NWC members dismissed the statement as “your personal opinion”. Reacting, many said Adamu’s antics showed that he is working overzealously for “a small cabal including few shadowy but influential figures at the Presidency whose stock in trade is to drop the name of President Buhari, who is a worthy and highly principled leader, in pursuit of their nefarious agenda.” According to them, Adamu now constitutes a “clear and present danger to continued existence of APC as a corporate entity”, capable of subverting Nigeria’s democratic processes. “By this show of shame, Adamu has clearly shown that he is not fit to preside over APC. It is shameful that a man rehabilitated from political penury in March by President Buhari

Norther Southern APC Governors also kicked against the move considered as imposition of presidential candidate and against their position on zoning of the seat. Facts have emerged that members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected an offer of $50,000 made to each of them to accept Ahmad Lawan, senate president, as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2023 general election. APC national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu had called a meeting of NWC by 1pm on Monday in Abuja. Sources privy to the meeting informed our correspondent in Abuja that Adamu told the NWC members that President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Ahmed Lawan as presidential candidate of the party. The NWC members as Prime Business Africa gathered, opposed the decision, saying it couldn’t have been true given what the northern governors had said that power should shift to the south and the response of the southern governors in that regard.
